COMMITTEE NEWS
Public Policy: NAWBO Business Women Meet With Governor Schwarzenegger in Sacramento
April 19, 2005 - NAWBO members, led by Jerri Hemsworth, CA President, met with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Monday to discuss business issues that are impacting California.

The delegation was in Sacramento for the annual NAWBO-CA Legislative Action Summit. The group spent two days in the capital to meet with legislators to discuss issues such as healthcare, preschool for all, workers comp., unemployment, and the governor’s reform package.

The delegation of NAWBO leaders and members who met with the governor was made up of 30 women business owners from throughout California. Cathy Daugherty, Vice President of Legislative Action for NAWBO-CA and NAWBO-OC's President Elect, had set up a meeting with staff members from the governor’s office, which then turned into a face to face with the governor himself.

The governor spoke about the importance of government being run like a business and the need for accountability in politics. He also urged the group to continue letting their voice be heard at the state and local level.

The two-day Legislative Action Summit is an annual event that provides a chance for women business owners to speak up and be heard at the capital. Each day is filled with lectures and seminars to help educate women on legislation that affects business.
