Assists in WBE Certification Process
NAWBO California has signed an agreement with the National
Women's Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC) to conduct on-site
inspections as part of the certification process for women-owned
businesses. The goal of the certification
program is to streamline the certification process and increase
the ability of women business owners to compete for contracts
at a national level. NAWBO CA will perform on-site inspections
of women-owned businesses in the state of California as part
of the certification process to ensure that a business is
woman-owned and -controlled.
The certification program was launched
as an alternative to the multiple certifications required
by many public and private-sector agencies and will eliminate
redundant certification reviews and facilitate doing business
with corporations and governments. This marks the first time
that a standard certification process exists for businesses
owned and controlled by women. Over 200 private and public
agencies such as AT&T, Universal Studios, Bank of America
and Marriott now accept this certification.
Getting certified is a relatively simple
process. First, request an application from NWBOC (800-675-5066
www.nwboc.org), fill it out and send it back to them. NWBOC
will send your application out to the certification committee
for legal and financial review. If that committee approves
your application, a site visit will be conducted, and then
a final review.
As an NWBOC-certified WBE, you will
be included in the NWBOC database that corporations and government
agencies use to access qualified WBEs. You will also receive
a disk with more than 1000 procurement contacts, and have
access to the Procurement Fair and Purchase Pro's WBO e-commerce
marketplace.
