MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
Certified Financial Planner™ Robin Giles contributed to an article in the November edition of Money magazine. She provided money advice to characters in the hit television show How I Met Your Mother as part of the magazine's regular feature "Unsolicited Advice."

"Inspired Work" blog recently wrote about NAWBO member Kim Shepherd and her company, Decision Toolbox: "Kim Shepherd has created an extraordinary culture that has virtual workers from Atlanta to New Zealand. Virtual work offers the flexibility of losing brick and mortar expense, and access to an extraordinary talent pool that simply will not fit into the previous constructs of work."

Josefina C. de la Cruz, CPA and treasurer of NAWBO-OC, was recently featured on "Making It" on KTLA channel 5. The show included an interview with Josie and a tour of her CPA firm. Josie recalled her humble beginnings in the 1980's, venturing out to start and grow her own company, while keeping a balanced life as a wife and mother. see show

Judee Slack, NAWBO-OC member and owner of Slack Tax Inc, offered excellent end-of-year tax suggestions in her byline article, "Time for Companies to Make Year-End Tax Moves" in the Business Monday section the Nov. 26 issue of the OC Register.

Sandra Robbie, NAWBO-OC member, was interviewed for OC Metro's Hot 25 story (Oct. 25) on Sylvia Mendez, the civil rights icon whose story Sandra is helping promote.

Camille Jayne, Immediate Past President of NAWBO-OC and CEO of Matters at Hand, was featured in a Nov. 26 article in OC Business Journal on Marwit Capital’s interest in OC-based companies, particularly women business owners. Marwit Capital is a NAWBO-OC corporate partner.

Joyce Salter, NAWBO-OC corporate partner and principal with Haskell & White LLP, had news briefs in the OC Register, OC Metro and OC Business Journal about her appointment to the Working Wardrobes Board of Directors.

Jacquelyn Tran, NAWBO-OC member and president of Perfume Bay, was featured in a photo profile, Global Scents, in the December Entrepreneur Magazine and a feature in the November Inc. magazine, plus other news hits i.e. AP, Forbes, OCBJ, and others.

Sondra Ames, NAWBO-OC member and co-founder of Wonderland Bakery, had coverage of her new South Coast Plaza store and Wonderland Adventure Collection in Coast Kids, OC Business Journal and OC Register.

Zov Karamardian, NAWBO-OC member and founder of Zov's Bistro, had coverage in the Tustin News and on the Food Frenzy and Greer OC’s blogs on her Dec. 3 Winter Winemakers Dinner.

Susan Johnson, NAWBO-OC member and CEO of Susan's Healthy Gourmet, was included in The OC Mom's Little Black Book article in the December Coast Kids, which described her kids' meals delivered to your door.

KUDOS
Working Wardrobes recently honored Judy Fox Brandt at their annual "Black Tie and Tennies" Gala as their Civic Partner of the Year. The organization also nominated Judy for a "volunteer spotlight," which appears in the OC Magazine's December issue in a section dedicated to philanthropies and volunteers in our county.

MEMBER NEWS
NAWBO-OC's Mentoring Program founded by Dee Elliott of You Gotta Go Travel, has grown from 16 women to 46 women in 3 years. Dee is now in the process of licensing the program, but will always let NAWBO-OC use it for free with her oversight!

10% Solution, started in May 2007 by member Jamie Welsh, provides certification for businesses meeting their rigid standards in three areas: philanthropy, volunteering and green sustainability. In October the company launched their website, and in November they secured their 5th customer and presented to Oprah's lead development person.

For the 20th year, the Orange County Register wants to recognize a small business owner who best exemplifies the holiday spirit all year long. MENTORING
Our 2008 NAWBO-OC Mentoring Program is now accepting applications online. Please see requirements before applying. To submit an application, click here to login to the Association Services website, then click on the link for the mentor or mentee application. If you are not a NAWBO member and would like to be considered for the Mentoring Program as a mentee, your first step is to join NAWBO. You will then be able login to access the mentoring application.
