 Building & Managing
a Virtual Workplace (March March 25, 2008, 9am-12pm)
by Kim Shepherd, CEO Decision Toolbox. Embracing the virtual
workplace is one of the most powerful ways for progressive
employers to generate significant financial savings—but
also to create vibrant corporate cultures. It might sound contradictory,
but a successful virtual company features both a strong balance
sheet and a very happy, productive workforce. Building a successful
virtual workplace depends on how well your organization can
tailor its technology, training and tracking. In
this three-hour workshop, we will tackle:
- Philosophy: trust...the mindset essential
for "virtual" success.
- Structure: creating a support network
for your team.
- Technology: new collaborative technologies
to keep your virtual team communicating.
- Training: poor training can make virtual
workers feel isolated. We’ll explore technologies that
enable virtual training, as well as "success tips" such
as time management and home office efficiency.
- Tracking: managing your virtual worker
by objective, rather than oversight and identifying KPIs.
- Resources: where to go for help
 Dare
to Delegate: Stop Doing and Start Leading (April
22, 2008, 5-8pm) by Joan Friedlander, Lifework Business Partners.
Building a dynamic team is clearly among the best ways to
build a
successful
business. For many business owners, this is easier said than
done. Fearing
loss of control, extra work and the added expense, many wait
longer than
they should to get started. Any time you are complaining about
being
overworked or stressed out, poor resource allocation and time
management are
often the culprits. By hanging onto tasks, people and projects
that no
longer fit, you hinder your ability to grow.

As a volunteer organization,
NAWBO-OC is run almost entirely on donated time and talent.
At present, nearly 60 members are actively participating
on committees and each of these women deserve our thanks
for their efforts and sharing of talent, without which
we would be without many resources, programs and services.
NAWBO members have consistently risen to the challenge
of leading our organization to higher and higher levels
of accomplishment. But every once in a while, a volunteer
goes above and beyond the call of duty to such an extent
and with such a consistent degree of excellence that
they irreversibly change and improve the fabric of our
organization. These individuals understand that at the
heart of the matter, and their service to this organization
counts in a fundamental way.
At the March dinner meeting we officially recognized
this level of commitment to excellence and commitment
to the OC chapter of NAWBO. Thank you to our service
award recipients: Rachel Owens, Nahid
Casazza, and
Dee Putman-Elliott.
