from the President
Welcome to NAWBO-Orange County! As the
largest chapter in the nation, with over 400 members, we offer
the broadest exposure to influential women business owners
of any organization in Orange County.
We have experienced explosive growth
during the past three years, due in large part to our concentrated
focus on the varied and
ever- changing needs of women business owners. We understand
that as you move through the stages of business ownership,
from thinking about starting a business, to starting the business
and being the "one-woman" show, to hiring your
first employee, to creating a multi-employee, multi-million
dollar sustainable business, your needs and requirements will
change. We offer networking, education and peer-to-peer roundtables
designed to provide high-impact, high-value support specifically
designed for you at each stage.
As the 2007-08 President, my platform
is "Getting To
The Heart Of It." You might ask what "heart" has
to do with business. Good question. When I think of getting
to the heart of it, I see so many areas where heart is foundational
to building a successful business.
Is your heart in your business? Do you
have a passion for what you do every day—whether it’s
the service you provide, the product you make, or the impact
you have on
your employees, your customers, or on the community at large?
How do you use your heart in running
your business? Do you make decisions strictly from your head?
Do you ask yourself,
what does my gut say? What is the right thing to do? What is
the compassionate approach? Do you allow yourself to be vulnerable,
to be human? Do you access your heart to create a vision for
yourself and your company – to see clearly into the future
that you want to build?
As business owners, we encounter many
challenges and opportunities. How do you navigate through
these quickly and effectively?
How do you get to the heart of the matter so that you aren’t
spending your time swirling around all the extraneous things
that prevent you from moving forward? Do you filter these challenges
and opportunities through the vision you created with your
heart?
On a physiological level, the heart supplies our bodies with
the lifeblood required for survival. The healthier our heart
is, the more we can go beyond survival to thrive and grow.
So it is true for our businesses. Are you getting to the heart
