Notice To NAWBO-OC Members Regarding
Spam/Scam E-mail From This Website:
In late 2004, all NAWBO-OC members' email links on this website
were changed to links to a customized contact form. This was
done to make it more difficult for spammers to send messages
to members, and to prevent the sending of malicious content
(e.g. viruses) via email links on the site.
Since we are ranked very high on popular search engines for
key terms such as women's business group (on Google we were
recently ranked #2 out of 103 million sites for this particular
phrase) we are, unfortunately, getting a lot of visits from
spammers and scammers, as well as legitimate individuals and
businesses.
Thus, since late 2004, you have probably
received several bogus emails using our contact form. Although
the source of
the email is now more obvious because the email subject reads "NAWBO
Contact Form" we strongly believe the amount of spam from
the site has actually declined. To further reduce this nuisance
we are tracking the use of the form, following up on each instance
of spam, and blocking senders if it is feasible to do so. However,
we cannot prevent this entirely without eliminating all email
links from the website, so we advise all members to ignore
suspicious email messages. There is no need to report suspicious
messages, as we are monitoring the site's email log.
Please note that you may also get legitimate
messages with the email subject "NAWBO Contact Form" including
inquiries from potential customers.
If you have any questions about this issue, or would prefer to have your email link removed entirely, please contact our webmaster. For more information on how to protect yourself from scam emails talk to your computer professional or see http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/fraudschemes.htm.
